About the Qualifiaction

The purpose of this Qualification is for learners to be able to produce radio programs. The National Certificate in Radio Production is a NQF Level 5 Qualification and is generic across commercial, public and community service fields.  The community impact of this Qualification presents job opportunities to which all-cultural groups have access, e.g. through community radio broadcasting.

The Qualification is also wide ranging, cutting across a broad spectrum of the economy and was designed to accommodate radio programs relevant to all audiences. This Qualification aims at enabling learners to be employable in all three sectors of the economy, i.e.: the public, commercial and community sectors.  Production, packaging, journalistic, content development are competencies required across all three tiers of broadcasting and the Qualification will allow the competent learners to be employable in all sectors of radio and not just community radio.
The Qualification will enable the learners to make value judgements; packaging calls for putting elements together in a unique and creative manner, producing calls for a process of research, conceiving ideas and actualizing those ideas. This Qualification requires learners not just to make products but also to be able to develop content for radio broadcasts.

The National Certificate in Radio Production (SAQA 62069) is aimed at developing managers and leaders who fully appreciate the relevance of the Fifth Industrial Revolution (5IR) and the importance of socio-economic matters in the transformation of the workplace that represents current realities, and who has become empowered to appropriately respond to this need. Students will focus on the key elements of business management, leadership, organisational behaviour, holistic thinking, technology and innovation management.

Admission

Minimum Admission Requirements

  • National Senior Certificate (NSC) (a): A minimum of 30% for English or a minimum of 30% in English, or
  • National Certificate (NC) (V) or equivalent at level 4 – a minimum of 40% in English, or
  • A Senior Certificate (SC), also known as Adult Matric for candidates older than 21 years, with a minimum of 33.3% in English.

The following learning is assumed to be in place before embarking on this Qualification

  • Language and communication competence at NQF Level 4
  • Mathematical literacy at NQF Level 4
  • Computer literacy at NQF Level 1
  • Record sound from a single source (e.g. radio, tape recorder)
International students with Senior School Certificate can apply.
This Qualification can be achieved wholly, or in part, through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).

Programme Duration

The programme is typically completed in one year not exceeding a maximum of eighteen months. This qualification is delivered both through blended learning and distance learning, which utilises a wide range of teaching and learning methodologies including digital support. It is delivered with innovative teaching methods.

Tuition Fees

The total cost of the qualification is R 55,550.00


The institution charges an Application Fee of R 500.00, in addition an Admission Fee will be payable upon enrolment. The milestones in the registration procedure are as follows:
  1. Submit your application
  2. Receive an acceptance letter or feedback on your Application
  3. On acceptance of the offer you make the payment according to the payment option agreed, including the Admission Fee of R 5,000.00 to initiate your enrolment

The module costs do not include prescribed books or any other learning fees. Books or any other learning fees are an additional cost that the students must factor into their calculations for their full costs of study (e.g. books, e-books, meals, accommodation & coaching etc.)

About the Radio Production Field of Study
Do you want to get your National Certificate in Radio Production (NQF Level 5) while gaining valuable real-world experience in our on-site working community radio station? Of course you do! We teach our future media legends in a real environment; giving you the confidence and skills to carve a path in media.

You will spend your mornings in lectures, unpacking the theory behind broadcasting and radio. Afternoons are spent in the studio, unleashing your creativity and coming up with the next best ideas for radio shows at our iLOVEmelville.LIVE online radio station. This is where you’ll learn how to solve real problems that no textbook can teach you!

At the end of the course, you will be qualified to work in public, commercial and community sectors. You will also know how to produce your own radio programmes. Our Radio Production course is perfect for entrepreneurs!
